LaunchUp Returns from the Brink

Written by Jeremy on . Posted in News

While in the midst of planning LaunchUp #3, I had an epic close call with a boulder on Mt. Nebo, and have spent a lot of the last 4 months recovering from that accident. I had to clear my plate pretty much of anything not critical, and thus LaunchUp (and most everything not related to family/getting rehabbed) got derailed. I had time to reflect on what’s important in my life as I’ve put it all back together. One thing that is now back firmly on my list (since I can finally get stuff done!) is helping entrepreneurs. And so LaunchUp is back. LaunchUp #3 is going to be held on Wednesday November 11th at 6:00 p.m. in the Coliseum conference room at HP Marketsplash/Logoworks building in Lindon. So mark your calendars!! We’ll update with details (address/directions, companies presenting, etc.) of the event soon. Help us spread the word. Thank you!, Thank you!, Thank you! to HP for providing us the location. We have spots for a companies to present. We’re looking for first time entrepreneurs that have at least a product to demo. Let me know if you (or someone you know) would be interested. jeremy @ jeremyhanks.com See you there! Why should I go to LaunchUp?

Written by Jeremy on . Posted in News

“Launch-up is a grass roots service created by entrepreneurs to aid fellow entrepreneurs launch and grow successful startups. We appreciated the quality, real-time feedback and advice from both live and online audiences. We’ve benefited from increased awareness, blog posts, podcasts and several new business opportunities since our presentation. I’d highly recommend Launchup to enterpreneurs looking to connect and tap synergies with other entrepreneurs in the community”. - JD Gardner, co-founder & seed investor, Tweetbooty Next one is tomorrow: LaunchUp #2. Featuring Todays Mama and Amber Alert GPS and a lot of great entrepreneurial conversation. See everyone there (in person or online).

LaunchUp #1 – In the Books

Written by Jeremy on . Posted in News

Well, LaunchUp #1 is all done. We had a great event. Around 70 people attended in person at Doba in Orem, and about another 30 participated online. You can watch an archive of the entire event online:LaunchUp 1 or by going to http://doba.acrobat.com/p82968254/ I think for our first event, things went OK. Had some glitches (sorry Ryan and EnticeLabs for the video snafu–both their videos, which are awesome BTW: TalentSeekr Intro Video), but all in all, I think things went well. Watch for some format changes and improvements for sure next time. If you have ideas to help improve the event, email me at: jeremy @ jeremyhanks . com We had a great event listening to Ben Peterson talk about the PPC: people, priorities, cash. And tell us that “cash is more important than your mother” and to “ignore the economy and get to work”. We tried to learn more about and then help TweetBooty and EnticeLabs. We’ll report back on those businesses at the next LaunchUp. We need people and organizations to help LaunchUp. We’ve got our Barn Builders page to fill. We also need barns (startups) for our next event that will be Wednesday April 22nd. Thanks so much for everyone who came, and especially for everyone who helped out: Ben Peterson, Brock Blake, Chris Knudsen, Stewart Goodwin, Clark Winegar, Tweetbooty Team, Ryan and Entice Labs, and Meagen Ridley. See you next month! More details on that soon. LaunchUp #1 – Wednesday March 25th, 6:00 p.m. – @ Doba in Orem

Written by Jeremy on . Posted in News

Here are all the glorious details about the first LaunchUp, our community barn raising event for entrepreneurs. We’re going to stream the event live and make it as inclusive as possible to anyone, even if you cannot attend in person. This way, during the featured company’s presentation and the moderated deep dive/community conversation, anyone, anywhere, can participate. We have a great event planned with 2 great companies that need/want our help. If you want to participate in the community discussion during the event, and especially during the 2 company Barn Raisings, you must be online. Even if you’re at the event in person. There will not be any Q&A/feedback mechanism except the online chat that coincides with the live video stream. So bring your laptops! I hope we have a room full of them. We’re then going to record that chat discussion and we’re hoping that provides a great resource to the entrepreneurs. Ultimately, this event will be the starting point for helping to raise the barn, with hopefully lots of follow-up interaction.

Countdown Extended

Written by Jeremy on . Posted in News

Due some unforeseen things (namely I’m spending 6 weeks in India and it just took some time to coalesce the ideas for LaunchUp), we’ve moved the first ever LaunchUp to Wednesday, March 25th. We’re going to have a great event. We’ll have an kick-off presentation by a well known and successful entrepreneur for 10-15 minutes, then we’re going to dive into our first ‘barn’ and spend some good time understanding a technology startup to the point that the attendees at the event and simultaneously online participants can provide relevant questions/concerns/feedback/help to those entrepreneurs, and we’ll end with an open-mic segment where anyone gets 60 seconds to throw out anything to the group: ideas, questions, thoughts. Then we’ll break for food and networking and Rock Band. (probably just kidding about the Rock Band, but you never know, we might set it up–what entrepreneur worth their salt hasn’t at some point dreamed of being a Rock Star.) We’re looking for companies to help, so if you have a demo-able product, have some traction, have a cool opportunity, email me: jeremy @ jeremyhanks . com Please spread the word, here are the new specifics: - Mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 25th, the first ever LaunchUp, held @ Doba in Orem. 1530 N Technology Way, Orem UT 84097 . Building D in Canyon Park Technology Center. - You can still learn more about the genesis for the idea of LaunchUp.org: What is LaunchUp? - Subscribe to our RSS feed - Follow us on Twitter: @launchup - Become a fan on Facebook: LaunchUp.org - Email Jeremy Hanks if you’d like to help/get move involved:
